Specialist Behaviour Support helps understand behaviours of concern and the factors that may be contributing to them. The process may include assessment, Behaviour Support planning, implementation support, training and ongoing review.

NWSS works with NDIS participants who have Behaviour Support needs, including children, young people and adults.

Participants generally require appropriate NDIS funding for ongoing Specialist Behaviour Support services. Contact us if you are unsure whether the participant has suitable funding.

Referrals can be made by the participant, family members or nominees, support coordinators, SIL and disability support providers, allied health professionals, schools and other professionals involved in the participant’s support.

NWSS focuses on Specialist Behaviour Support. We work collaboratively with the providers and professionals already supporting the participant.

A Functional Behaviour Assessment is used to understand behaviours of concern and the circumstances in which they occur. It may include interviews, observations, review of records and analysis of patterns in behaviour.

An interim plan can provide immediate guidance while detailed assessment is underway. A comprehensive plan follows more detailed assessment and contains longer-term strategies, implementation guidance and review arrangements.

Yes. Where restrictive practices are involved, NWSS can undertake Behaviour Support work associated with assessment, planning, monitoring, implementation support and strategies aimed at reducing and eliminating restrictive practices where possible.

Yes. Services may be delivered face-to-face, through telehealth or through a combination of approaches depending on the participant’s location, needs and circumstances.

NWSS reviews the referral and contacts the participant, nominee or nominated referral contact to clarify the Behaviour Support need, funding, consent, information-sharing and next steps.
